review: the social network

The Social Network (2010)

a movie by David Fincher 

David Fincher, tu nunca me desiludes. Lembro-me perfeitamente da minha primeira reacção quando soube que ele estava a realizar um filme sobre o facebook, foi algo do género "mas o que raio é que ele pensa que está a fazer???". Sinceramente, pensei mesmo que ia sair asneira e que ia ser outro Alien 3 ou Panic Room, os filmes que considero mais fracos da sua filmografia (que conta com o meu filme favorito - Fight Club - e outros pesos pesados como Se7en, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Game e Zodiac). 

Mas, felizmente, não saí do cinema nada defraudada. Realização soberba de um dos melhores realizadores da actualidade, o meu favorito até, que já merecia um óscar há muito tempo. Não que ache que tenha alguma hipótese de o ganhar este ano, The Social Network não parece ser um filme que vá agradar muito à Academia. Falta a história romântica, as lágrimas, o drama.

 Adorei os diálogos, as "personagens" (mark, és o rei) e é sem dúvida um dos melhores filmes que vi este ano. Mais uma vez, como todos os filmes do Fincher, ele requere que as pessoas consigam ver além do óbvio. Ele não é um filme sobre o facebook e que só interessa a quem gostava de saber o que está por detrás de tudo, como ouvi dizer. Este é um filme real, sobre o nosso tempo, sobre as nossas escolhas, sobre a nossa vida.

Gage: Mr. Zuckerberg, do I have your full attention? 

Mark Zuckerberg: [stares out the window] No. 

Gage: Do you think I deserve it? 

Mark Zuckerberg: [looks at the lawyer] What? 

Gage: Do you think I deserve your full attention? 

Mark Zuckerberg: I had to swear an oath before we began this deposition, and I don't want to perjure myself, so I have a legal obligation to say no. 

Gage: Okay - no. You don't think I deserve your attention. 

Mark Zuckerberg: I think if your clients want to sit on my shoulders and call themselves tall, they have the right to give it a try - but there's no requirement that I enjoy sitting here listening to people lie. You have part of my attention - you have the minimum amount. The rest of my attention is back at the offices of Facebook, where my colleagues and I are doing things that no one in this room, including and especially your clients, are intellectually or creatively capable of doing. 

[pauses] 

Mark Zuckerberg: Did I adequately answer your condescending question?
